Just in Time Abraham Lincoln

Title: Just in Time, Abraham Lincoln
Author: Patricia Polacco
Illustratir:  Patricia Polacco
Genre: Historical Fiction
Age Level:  3rd-6th
Summary:   The main characters are Michael, Derek, and Abraham Lincoln. The story centers around two boys on a visit to their grandmothers. They take a train trip they enjoy but are not allowed to play with or use any of their electronic equipment on the trip. The younger boy is allowed to keep his lucky penny though, which plays a part in the time travel aspect of the story. They visit Harper’s Ferry Civil War Museum. They’re in awe of war and battle, and so the museum director invites them to play a game, which turns into quite an adventure. It’s the “day after the battle at Antietam” in the American Civil War, a critical time during that war.  The illustrations in this book are very well done.  They show vivid pictures that are not too graphic so that this book could be used for younger students but the pictures and the story are lively enough to keep the attention of older students.
