Oh Say, I can't see

Title: Oh Say, I Can't See

Author: Jon Scieszka

Illustrator: Adam McMauley

Genre: Historical Fiction

Age Level:  3rd- 5th grade

This book takes place during the Revolutionary War; the main characters are Sam, Joe, Fred, Samantha, and George Washington. Fred, Joe, and Sam’s great-granddaughter Samantha travel back in time to the American Revolution and meet General George Washington and his men at a time of crisis. The young children are living in Brooklyn, New York when they go back in time to the middle of Christmas night, 1776. In a surprise attack - General George Washington bravely led his American Colonial troops across the Delaware River to New Jersey forever changing the outcome of the War in favor of the American colonies.
This was a chapter book that I believe would be a good foreword to teaching about the Revolutionary War.  There were not that many illustrations in the book that I believe would make it hard for students younger than third grade to keep their attention.
