Title: Puss In Boots
Author: Malcolm Arthur
Age: K-10
Award: Caldecott Medal
This book tells the story of puss in
boots, which I've heard a few different ways. This version uses medieval-esque
techniques for its illustrations, to give a reader a feel for the setting. It
also uses a wide variety or opening formats throughout the book. Some include
images that span across both pages, with text beneath, while others feature a
single, horizontal image between two panels of text on one page, and a
full-page image on the other. This helps keep the story moving, and lends to a
more fairytale-like feel. The book is oriented portrait, to feature the human
characters, as well as puss, who walk on his hind legs.
